Mississippi state may change flag amid protests

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves said he was ready to sign the bill on the new state flag because of the symbolism of the Confederation of Southern States present on it. He wrote about this on June 27 on his page on the social network Twitter. The head of state noted that representatives of the legislative branch have been discussing the new state flag for several days, but discussions about the 1894 flag have reached an impasse. The discussion about the flag of 1894 became as controversial as the flag itself, and the time has come to put an end to this. If they send me the bill this weekend, I will sign it, "Reeves said in a statement. Recall that the flag of the US state of Mississippi is the only one in the country on which the symbols of the Confederate States of America are present. The Confederation of Southern States was formed as a result of the withdrawal of 13 southern slave-owning states from the United States of America. The Confederate States were an opponent of the United States during the American Civil War. The military conflict ended with the victory of the North and the restoration of the United States within its former borders. The condition for the return of the southern states was the adoption of completely new state constitutions prohibiting slavery, and the ratification of the corresponding amendment to the US Constitution. According to the news agency, the mass demolition of monuments to southerners and the destruction of symbols of the Civil War are observed in the United States amid mass protests against racism caused by the murder of African American George Floyd by police officers in Minneapolis.
