Von der Leyen: general measures to support EU economies may not be approved in July

European Commission officials will not go on vacation until the EU authorities approve general measures to support the countries of EU members affected by the epidemic, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in an interview with Handelsblatt on Monday, June 29. At the same time, she admitted that the leaders of the EU countries may not agree on common support measures on the second attempt, at the summit, which will be held at the end of July 2020, and that the solution to the issue will be postponed until August. The delay on the part of European bureaucrats and the inability of the leaders of the EU member states to agree provokes criticism from the opposition in a number of countries, especially in Italy: some politicians note that the lack of common measures after almost six months of the epidemic indicates the inability of the EU to solve the issues for which it was created.
