In Japan, employees will retire early

According to a study by the Tokyo Shoko Research think tank, 52 companies in Japan have offered their employees to retire ahead of schedule, NHK news agency reports. In 2020, from January 1 to August 13, a total of 9,323 employees made such proposals. In addition, it is reported that the number of proposals for early retirement has increased sharply this month due to the worsening epidemiological situation. Among these 52 organizations were garment and textile enterprises, firms producing electrical appliances and cars, as well as retail companies and restaurants. 15 organizations cited the losses caused by the pandemic as the reason for the reduction in labor. Tokyo Shoko Research suggests that if the effects of the pandemic remain equally damaging to the economy, more companies will encourage employees to retire early.
