Parliament of Abkhazia rejected two bills on presidential elections

Two bills amending the electoral law of Abkhazia did not pass the voting procedure in the Parliament of the Republic. This is reported on February 6 by Abkhazia-Inform. According to journalists, the draft laws were introduced by deputies Valeriy Agrba and Kaha Pertaya. In addition, comments to the current legislation were submitted by the CEC of Abkhazia, which had to face the fact that the provision in the law was understood in two ways. According to the news agency, the election of the President of Abkhazia, which took place in September 2019, was cancelled by the Supreme Court of the Republic in January 2020. The claim for invalidation of the results of the second round was filed by the losing candidate Alhas Kwicinia. The reason to challenge the victory was the provision in the electoral law that the winner is the one who won more votes, provided that there are more votes for him than against him. Quicinia stated that when the votes given for him and the counts against all, it will turn out to be larger than the winning Raul Hajimba. The court ruled in favour of the plaintiff after the riots in Tskhinvali began.
