Lockheed Martin to produce new satellites for missile defense for the Pentagon


The US Department of Defense signed a contract with Lockheed Martin Corporation for the creation of a low-orbit constellation of military satellites, worth $187.5 million. This is stated in a Pentagon statement issued on August 31. It is noted that among the contractors of the US defense department, York Space Systems is also included in the implementation of this project, the amount of the contract with which is $94 million. The production of new generation satellites will be carried out at company plants both directly in the USA and in Canada, Germany and Spain. The first ten satellites are due to be launched into orbit in 2022. According to the news agency, Japan will join the US project to deploy a network of miniature low-orbit satellites in Earth orbit to detect and track next-generation missiles, including using the latest hypersonic technologies.
