Macron and Erdogan will hold telephone conversations
French President Emmanuel Macron and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan will hold telephone conversations around 19:00 (GMT + 1) on Tuesday, September 22. It is reported by Le Figaro. Against the background of significant disagreements, the two leaders will take part in a bilateral conversation, during which they will try to ease tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean. As the French presidential administration explained, Macron set his goal to strengthen the position of France and Europe in the region on the eve of the EU summit on the crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean. Recall that earlier Macron described the foreign policy pursued by Erdogan as destabilizing Europe. He also stated that Turkey is no longer a partner of France in the Mediterranean. According to the news agency, Erdogan criticized the actions of his French counterpart in support of Greece after the fire in the refugee camp on the island of Lesbos and called it an ambitious nonsense.
